The joys of string quartet playing attracted me in elementary school when I was 10 years old, and this formative experience nurtured my lifelong love of chamber music. The San Francisco Symphony offers an annual series of 6 musician-curated chamber music concerts at Davies Symphony Hall. I’ve enjoyed programming and playing a wide variety of repertoire on these concerts over the years, including beloved masterpieces such as the Mendelssohn Octet; brilliant works by underrepresented composers including African American women Florence Price, Undine Smith Moore, and Jessie Montgomery; and music composed in concentration camps during the Holocaust by Gideon Klein and Hans Krasa that we performed on instruments from the “Violins of Hope” collection.
